Ikata Town

Ikata Town is located on the Sadamisaki Peninsula which separates the Seto Inland Sea and the Uwa Sea. In the ancient feudal times the town belonged to the Uwajima fief, and has long been known for advanced agriculture and fishery methods, as well as for the local tradition of sake brewing because of the many skilled *toji* (master brewer) who lived in the area. Today, the area has become one of the leading producers in Ehime Prefecture, of greenhouse grown mandarin oranges. In addition, Ikata Town is also known for the establishment of the first nuclear power station on the island of Shikoku.
