Establishing Factories Overseas in Search of Material
Over half of the cotton yarn used for the Imabari towels are imported
from overseas from such nations as China, Korea, Pakistan, etc. Recently,
there have been increasing calls to set up factories overseas. More and
more companies are branching out their operation to such countries as
Thailand and China to set up joint ventures with local companies. There
is also an example of one company that has established a 100 percent
financed subsidiary in Talian City in China. In seeing the importance of
the transferal of technology, companies have been actively working
towards this goal. For instance, a number of trainees from China have
come to Ehime to study the technical skills and technology of the
industry in Ehime.
