Ehime's Natural Environment Gives Ehime the Leading Advantage
Ehime has long enjoyed being the leading producer of paper. Its competitive
edge is due to Ehime's natural abundance of water and paper mulberry that
grow along the Douzan River. Over 200 manufacturers are concentrated in
and around the area of Iyomishima City and Kawanoe City in the eastern
part of Ehime. Printing paper, newsprint and other papers are mainly
produced by large manufacturers. Sanitary paper products such as toilet
tissue, and processed paper products like paper towels, non-woven fabrics
and shipping tags are produced by smaller manufacturers. Traditional paper
products which are an integral part of Japanese life, such as mizuhiki
(ceremonial paper cords) and tesuki-washi (handmade Japanese paper) are
also produced. They rely on research, technology and product planning to
develop new products and markets for the industry.

Technology of the Times
Ehime's paper industry has some of the most advanced recycling
technologies in the world, enabling the reuse of waste paper from
newspapers, magazines, etc. Needless to say, the recycling technology is
beneficial for the environment, to both conserve natural resources of the
forest and to decrease the amount of waste in our daily lives. With
increased office automation, efforts are currently being made for the
improvement of the quality of cut forms, thermosensitive papers,
non-carbon papers, seal papers, etc.
